An erection is developed when sufficient blood flows to the penis. When the rate of blood flow into the penis overcomes the flow out of the penis, the penis lengthens, hardens and a rigid erection results. Here are the three types of Erectile Dysfunction.

1. Sexual Prime: Upto the age 20 there is an increasing frequency of nocturnal penile erections and this period is described as Sexual Prime. During this stage testosterone levels and the ability to maximally dilate the blood vessels are at their peak. Erections are frequent and spontaneous events.

2. Early Sexual Decline: Most men experience a decline in their sexual function above the age of thirty. The ability to achieve one erection quickly after the first subsides may be diminished. The main reason for this is due to the decreased blood flow to the penis. You can overcome by doing regular exercises, maintain a healthy weight, eat a balanced diet and seek appropriate medical attention to address health problems.

3. Increased Sexual Dysfunction: Some degree of sexual dysfunction is experienced by men over the age of 40. Common conditions associated with vascular disease start to become apparent in these men, including coronary artery disease and high blood pressure. You can prevent these by stop smoking and review all your medications with your doctor as some may actually worsen your erectile dysfunction.
